"Project Nim": 5th Yr Biology and 3M trip to see the documentary "Project Nim" in Gorey Cinema.

On Monday26th September, a group of 50 students went to see a documentary called "Project Nim", in Gorey Cinema.

It's the story of Nim, the chimpanzee, who in the 1970s became the focus of a landmark experiment which aimed to show that an ape could learn to communicate with language if raised and nurtured like a human child. Following Nim's extraordinary journey through human society, and the enduring impact he makes on the people he meets along the way. The students really enjoyed the documentary.

2nd Year Science Fair

















On 24th March all 2nd years took part in a Science Fair. In groups of 3, students researched a topic and presented an experiment for this competition. All experiments and posters were displayed in the canteen and viewed by all 1st year classes. The students were judged by teachers in the school.

The prizes for this science fair were sponsored by Servier, Arklow.

Arklow Community College Young Scientists Finalists 2011







Out of 1750 entries...a mere 520 projects were selected to compete in the final of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Competition in the RDS Dublin January 12th- 15th.

Arklow Community College have 4 projects in this final (9 students from 1st and 2nd Year)....Shane Cullen and Jade Hackett (2M) with their project "Teenage Stress", Niamh Cloran Doyle with her project "Ireland: A Tea Loving Nation" (missing From Photo Kym Forde), Cian Dodd and Canberk Caldemir with their project "Fitting In : A Migrant Students Perspective" and "Mind Your Manners" by Niamh Byrne, Sinead Dunne and Laura Gilbert.
