Science Week in Arklow Community College

Science Week at Arklow Community College

Every year, Arklow Community College celebrates National Science Week in its own very special way. We see this week as an excellent opportunity to showcase students academic abilities while promote science and technology in our school.

How do we do this?

Well, we are passionate about inventing interesting and fun science activities. Activities of past Science Weeks have included….

·         Bottle Rocket Launches.
·         Science Spelling Bee
(All spellings are from the Junior and Leaving Cert Science Curriculum. This has proven to be an excellent way in promoting and improving science literacy in our school)
·         Trips to Natural History Museum and Science Live Road shows in RDS.
·         Trips to Bray Sealife and Dublin Zoo.
·         Nasa Shuttle Lessons: Astronaut training and shuttle launches.
·         60 second Science News Intercom announcement.
·         Science Challenge (Quiz show format)
·         Science Table Quiz.
·         Science Fact of the Day.
·         Science @ the movies ( Science Lab is converted into a cinema with comfy couches, blackened out windows, fresh popcorn and drinks, while a science movie is played on our interactive whiteboard) Class group winners of a science competition earn the privilege of a cinema pass. Films on offer for viewing include “Apollo 13”, “Rocket Boys” “Space Camp” and “The Manhattan Project”.
